Job Description

The WorkPlace Group, a division of The Special Needs Employment Service Inc, is recruiting for an Employment Consultant / Job Developer.

Job Title: Employment Consultant / Job Developer

Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday, 8am to 4:30pm (32hrs/week)

Rate of Pay: $24-$28 per hour

This role involves aiding a diverse clientele in crafting personalized return-to-work strategies. Responsibilities include individual counseling, goal setting, coordinating appointments, and facilitating referrals to relevant services. Additionally, the position entails liaising with employers, marketing clients to potential job opportunities, and providing employment retention support as needed.

Employment Consultant Summary

The Employment Consultant, under direction of the Executive Director & Supervisor, works individually with a diverse population of clients to assess their skills and strengths and develop a return-to-work action plan designed to assist clients in reaching employment. This population includes, but is not limited to, clients with disabilities and multiple barriers to employment.

Job Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counselling to unemployed and underemployed clients.
  • Assist clients in identifying barriers and employment-related needs through counselling process and the development of a Return-to-Work Action Plan.
  • Assist in goal setting for the development of a Return-to-Work Action Plan.
  • Collect relevant information on income supports and criteria necessary for programs and services that will assist the client in entering or re-entering the labour market.
  • Ensure registration processes are complete and appropriate documentation is entered into client database and Government of Ontario CaMS database system.
  • Coordinates follow up appointments with clients through multiple online platforms.
  • Utilize knowledge of programs and services to ensure appropriate referrals for both clients and employers.
  • Ensure documentation is complete and up-to-date and that case note entries are entered in a timely manner.
  • Record daily statistics for monthly reporting.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments with clients where necessary and conduct regular telephone/Zoom/Teams or in person follow-ups to obtain information on client status.
  • Complete necessary documentation to assist clients in accessing various community and Ministry programs.
  • Relay program and service information to clients and develop appropriate action plans with goals and objectives.
  • Assist clients with the development of resumes and cover letters.
  • Register clients for in-house/and or hybrid services and refer clients to appropriate community resources.
  • Refer clients to appropriate outside agencies for assistance with non-employment related barriers.
  • Collect information about local programs and services that could benefit clients, staff, or the organization on an on-going basis.
  • Network with other agency members to promote in-house programs and services.
  • Remain up to date about the organization’s local employer base and labour market trends.
  • Participate in professional development activities and establish personal learning goals.
  • Assist in identifying areas where service delivery could be enhanced.
  • May be required to plan, coordinate, and facilitate workshops or training programs.
  • Adhere to the organization’s code of ethics and respect client confidentiality.

Job Development Summary

The Job Developer, under direction of the Executive Director and Supervisor, is responsible for assisting clients with income supports and to market themselves to potential employers.  Job Developers will work closely with employers to develop employment opportunities for clients.  Support is designed with the overall goal at leading clients into successful participation in the labour market.

Job Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities

  • Contact employers to discover current recruiting needs and to secure employment for clients with disabilities and/or barriers.
  • Liaise with employers to facilitate work accommodation, disability awareness and sensitivity and support workers with disabilities to integrate into the new work environment.
  • Working with the client, the job developer will determine the best ways to eliminate the client’s barriers through workplace accommodations, assist devices, flexible work scheduling, etc.
  • Market participants for placement and provide support to both the employer and the participant.
  • Provide job coaching for clients as needed or as requested by the employer.
  • Become familiar and work with local organizations and service providers to provide additional support for clients.
  • Participate in regular staff/team meetings as required.
  • Ensure participant confidentiality is always maintained.
  • Complete activity tracking sheets daily with appropriate data input and compile monthly statistical reports as directed.
  • Ensure that all client files are updated daily, and that follow-up is completed in a scheduled and timely manner.
  • Be committed to maintaining professional skills.

 Requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary education with a specialization in Social Services or a related field and/or three years of experience working in the service sector is preferred.
  • Social Service Worker (SSW) diploma or degree is preferred.
  • Experience related to employment counselling is preferred.
  • Experience working with a diverse client base.
  • Additional on the job-training will be provided to job incumbents.
