Employment and Training Incentives

Employers may receive financial incentives to provide on-the-job training placements, including apprenticeships: work experience opportunities; and skill level assessments for participants in trial placements. The total amount of incentive varies based on the complexity of job skill level and the length of training required per individual.

These incentives are in place to help offset some of the employers’ costs of a new hire, such as temporary reductions in productivity, increased supervision requirements, and out-of-pocket training expenses.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a subsidized placement through Employment Services, employers must:

  • Be licensed to operate in Ontario
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide the trainee with adequate supervision and the training described in the training plan
  • Provide employment in Ontario
  • Place trainees on the company’s payroll and provide the same employment in terms, conditions, and benefits as for all regular employees
  • Comply with the  Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act
  • Maintain appropriate WSIB or alternate workplace safety insurance coverage
  • Have adequate third-party general liability insurance
  • Comply with freedom of information and protection of privacy legislation
  • Declare that the individual will not hire their spouse, sibling, or child as a trainee, will not displace existing staff or replace staff on lay-off, and is not receiving funds from any other source for the training placement

Registration to participate is quick and easy! Simply register with us as an employer, work with a Consultant to develop a training plan, and then provide training to your new hire as planned.
